How do I feel about the Soulja Boy Diss of Ice-T

A lot of people that know me know that I am cool with Ice-T and that the original OG album is my shyt. Guys are asking me how I feel about the Souljah Boy diss and I have to say that both guys are right about some things. With Ice, I agree with what he said about Souljah boy, just not the way that he said it (only because the kid is 17, if he was grown then say what you say). Ice, Cube, Rakim, EPMD, Public Enemy, X-Clan hell, even Curtis Blow would hate today's music. To me, today's music is like Ice-T said, Today's Hip Hop (Rap) sounds like Garbage.

In the same token, you cannot blame souljah boy for the demise of hip hop or the quality or lack thereof in hip hop. You have to blame the industry, the execs and the people marketing that BS.

Now, for the part where I side (some) with Souljah Boy. Yeah, we are older and we think a lot of the shyt that they are spittin sounds like garbage BUT...our parents thought out shyt sounded like garbage too. The game has changed and today's music is simply a sign of the times.

Now my message to Souljah Boy is this: A) Listen to some Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder. Then listen to X-Clan, EPMD, Rakim, PE (Public Enemy) and Wu. At the same time, since you like looking stuff up on the NET, read headlines from those days and what was going on. Then look at what was going on when Cube, Ice-T and NWA were out, when police were out there fuckin us up and puttin plungers in ni**as and killin us and listen to the lyrics of the music and the anger in hip-hop. Finally, go listen to Tupac and B.I.G. who if alive would be old enough to be your father as well.

Look at today's issues. Look at the war in Iraq, what is still going on in the hood, racism, rapes, why ni**as can't get jobs, high as gas prices, Mr. Bush the nations pimp etc.,

It's okay to make a hot club joint young brother, do you. In the same token, you have the opportunity to be a voice for all of us, to be a voice for the people, the outrage and the hurt that the black community is going through.

You have a voice young ni**a...SPEAK!

Ice-T's method may have been wrong, but the message is clear.

Finally...Respect your elders.

Peace to you both from Chicago.
